The magic of live entertainment. In the realm of entertainment, we creators have the privilege of sharing stories and experiences that transcend mere amusement. Through our messages, we have the power to positively impact the lives of our audience members, touching their hearts and minds in many different ways. But the beauty of entertainment doesn't end with us. It extends to our audience, who in turn, share and create unforgettable memories with loved ones, whether it's with family, friends, or even in solitary reflection. These memories become cherished companions, weaving their way into the show of our lives, even when we least expect it. Live entertainment offers a unique opportunity to connect with the present moment, free from distractions. It's a space where it's just you and the story unfolding before you. Here, you don't just connect with the narrative or the performers; you connect with fellow audience members, sharing in the collective experience of laughter, tears, and everything in between. This is the magic of live entertainment, and it's something we experience every day in our theaters. So let's continue to embrace the power of storytelling, both as creators and as audience members. Let's celebrate the moments of connection, of shared emotion, and of collective wonder that make live entertainment unforgettable experiences. How To Build Your Brand - The single easiest way to build your personal brand is by helping others, by sharing what you know. Doing well by doing good.
I want to thank Larry Kuperman of Nightdive Studios heartily. Not only has he been a great friend, mentor, and dream client over many years, but last month, he agreed to join the ÜberStrategist team during a "lunch and learn," sharing with our team decades of wisdom gathered while working in business development and the video game industry. Our industry evolves continually. What was enough back in the day, or what used to work, doesn't necessarily work anymore today, and it is even less likely to work tomorrow. Having someone come talk to our team, who has seen many seismic shifts in our industry, and give advice on how to stay ahead of the challenges is priceless. Thank you, Larry, for sharing your time and advice with our team!

“All of our businesses are in the attention business and we’re fighting for people’s leisure time. There’s TikTok and there’s gaming and there’s this and there’s that, but the magic word is habit,” MoviePass CEO Stacy Spikes said on stage at SXSW on Saturday, March 9. “We have this really rich thing that’s still the cheapest thing you can do as a live event anywhere on the planet. But we haven’t given people the frequency, the consistency, the programming to make it a strong habit where you always know ‘Friday, I’m at the movies.'” Here are the five biggest takeaways of this panel with, besides MoviePass, executives from Alamo Drafthouse and the Cinema Foundation.

“the Houses of Big Oil formed an unholy alliance. They bought the politicians and the media, and they had them spread lies about the very science that they know to be true, because….Profit." FALSE. This is where science and climate activism are leading climate action into a trap of inaction. It is not profit, but GROWTH to drive share price that drives Big Oil into climate action obstruction. And GROWTH, we are being told by our politicians and the media, IS ESSENTIAL to our existence, and our happiness. This truth, actually, is not true. It is the special pleading for the special interest of vested interest in perpetuating capital markets financialization of the economy. The secret force that secretly powers this financialization? Workforce Pensions. The tens of trillions, collectively, aggregated into social trusts for the social purpose of provisioning the promise of income security in a dignified retirement for millions of current and future retired workers, worldwide, that is currently being held captive by the capital markets in the false narrative of Asset Owners Allocating Assets Across Asset Classes, and within classes selecting Asset Managers peer benchmarked by Consultants for excellence in maximizing the highest possible purely pecuniary profit extraction through gain on sale in the capital markets solely in the financial best interests of capital markets professionals. This, we are taught to believe, is also the financial best interest of current and future retired workers, directly, and all of us, consequently. This also, is false. The best interest of workers, and all of us, is not financialization. It is the prudent person. The key to climate action is not “laws and policies”. It is setting pensions free from capital markets capture, so they can they be free to exercise their vast powers to flow the enormous quantities of money they control into the right enterprises, in the right way, for use by enterprise in doing the right work, in the right way, for the right time, at the right cost and on the right terms, to form the right businesses for forming the right technologies for forming the right choices for forming the right economy for forming a cohesive society, and keeping it ongoing into a dignified future, on a planetary scale, in the 21st Century, and beyond, a future that includes energy sufficiency complete with habitat longevity and social equity on a planetary scale. We don’t need politicians to do that. We can do it ourselves.

Controversial point #1 of this post: I’m not a Game of Thrones fan. BUT, nevertheless, I think this is brilliant. Controversial point #2: climate change is not ‘another bad joke’, it is in fact serious, as John Snow kindly points out. Alarmingly, as things stand THE EARTH IS ON TRACK TO HIT UP TO 3.1 DEGREES CELCIUS OF WARMING BY 2100 according to the UN Emissions Gap Report 2024, released just this month. For the children of our planet, that is within their lifetime. 3oC of warming… it might not sound like a lot to you, but geological records suggest that just a 1-2oC drop in global average temperatures in the past was enough to send Earth into the Little Ice Age. This time, we’re headed for an inferno 🔥 described as “catastrophic” by the UN. We all have the opportunity to do something about this, but it takes a (global) village. We can put pressure on our governments, leaders, business to do significantly better. We can make changes to our daily actions, using and buying only what we need, and diverting our money away from fossil fuel funding, which can be extremely impactful. Have you ever looked at how your bank invests your money!? 💷You might be shocked. There is a chance we can still avoid the worst impacts of climate change becoming a reality, but much bolder actions are needed, and quick!! 🏃♀️ And for those in America who care even the slightest about preserving the future of this planet 🌏, for goodness sake don’t vote for Trump…

So, yeah, those 2 days in December we were at Universal Studios (picture proof below). And, guess what? It made us better. Because when you take the time to see people -- see them in person and also just "see" them -- you work better together. It's true. It's way easier to misinterpret a Slack than an in-person conversation. It's way easier to connect when you know someone also loves Harry Potter or can talk for hours about favorite live performances through the years like you can. Or when you all taste that epic chicken dish together. And working better together brings all sorts of great results. This Inc. article on Carve Communications, Inc. is a great way to head off to Spring Break. Thanks, team, and see you all in a week!
