vSphere Distributed Switches: Private VLANs

- [Rick] In this video, we'll learn about the private VLAN feature of the vSphere Distributed Switch. This is a feature that's only available in the vSphere Distributed Switch, it is not available in the vSphere Standard Switch. So private VLANs are used to isolate traffic within a VLAN. And this is one of the more confusing topics that we're going to cover here in this course. So you may need to rewatch this video more than once, but let's kind of break it down piece by piece here. In this slide, we see a bunch of virtual machines, these little squares down here represent my VMs, and you'll notice that all of these VMs are within the same IP address range. 10.1.1.10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and one. So they're all under the 10.1.1 subnet. And these VMs are all in the same primary VLAN, VLAN 10. And so as we would expect, VMs in the same VLAN are going to be in the same IP address range, so nothing new there so far. But now let's assume that these VMs are owned by different departments…
