vMotion Configuration maximums

vMotion Configuration maximums

- [Rick] In this very brief video, we're going to learn about some of the maximums for vMotion and I'm going to be using a resource from the VMware website. This is an article on blogs.vmware.com that's going to walk you through the maximum number of concurrent vMotions that can be performed simultaneously. And the article itself will walk you through this concept of slots and how slots impact how many virtual machines can be migrated at once. We really don't need to get that deep here. What I just want to mention, and by the way, this has not changed significantly in the current version of ESXI. So although you see ESXI 6 and 7 referenced here, the maximum number of simultaneous vMotions has not changed with the current version of the ESXI. So with an ESXI host, there are what we call 16 units available, and a storage vMotion consumes eight units. So basically you can do two storage vMotions per host at any given moment. A vMotion costs two units, so we can do up to eight vMotions…
