- [Instructor] In this movie, I'm going to discuss the parts of a book, their purpose and the order in which they come. I'll also set up the page numbering. The exact order of these parts may vary according to the publisher, the genre, and the region. If in doubt, refer to the style manual used by the publisher. I'll be using the Chicago Manual of Style. I've made a mock-up in InDesign that includes most of the parts you're likely to encounter. A book is divided into three main sections, the front matter, the main body, and the back matter. Surrounding the book there may be end papers, which may be decorative and also serve as a transition from the cover to the book itself, but these would typically be prepared in a separate document.
