Create a basic map

Creating maps and Tableau is a straightforward process, but there are some things that you need to look out for. In this movie, I will show you the process of creating a map and also demonstrate some of the things that you need to look out for. My sample file is 11_01_Basic map, and you can find it in the Chapter_11 folder of the Exercise Files collection. In this workbook I have data that has three geographic data fields, and those are the city. So that's the city name of a customer. Then the US state where they live and also their zip code and other countries. A zip code is often called a postal code. It serves the same purpose. If I want to create a basic map, I can double click any of the geographic data fields. To start, I will double click state. And Tableau creates a map that gives a list of every state from which a customer has placed an order.
