Before diving into DFSS, you should have a solid understanding of Six Sigma. If you're not yet familiar with this project management approach, please watch Six Sigma Foundations by Richard Chua and my course "Six Sigma: White Belt" here on LinkedIn Learning. Now, before we can talk about design, let's start with a brief overview of Six Sigma. Six Sigma is a customer-focused continuous improvement strategy on reducing variation in all processes using problem-solving and statistical tools. The goal is to achieve only 3.4 defects per million opportunities. Six Sigma was developed in the mid-1980s at Motorola, but has since been implemented across numerous industries including finance, IT, government, and healthcare. The goals of Six Sigma are to develop a world-class culture, create leaders, and support long-term objectives and strategies for companies. Six Sigma has five key phases known as DMAIC.
