Showcase work you're proud of: Adding featured content
- [Narrator] When you've created or accomplished something you're proud of, you want to share all your incredible hard work, right? In early 2020, LinkedIn launched Featured, a section within your profile that allows you to do just that. If you had any existing media in your About section, where your summary is Featured, your media has probably automatically moved to the Featured section. The Featured section lets you showcase your expertise and what makes you unique! It displays below the About section of your profile. With Featured, you can highlight posts you've authored or reshared, articles you've published on LinkedIn, as well as images, documents, videos, and even links. So how does it work? Let's take a look using one of my favorite LinkedIn profiles. Meet Tariq. Here we are in Tariq's LinkedIn profile. If we scroll down to his Featured section, you'll see that he already has content there, why? Because a video of the Lakehouse Restaurant was already uploaded to his About section, so you can see, it's been automatically pinned to his Featured section here. Now, Tariq has two other rich media assets that he's extremely proud of, and he wants to pin them to his Featured section. Here's how he'll do it. He'll click the blue plus on the top right of the Featured section. Next, he'll scroll down and select Media, because he's going to be uploading a PDF doc. Tariq just completed a gorgeous style guide representing the brand guidelines for the Lakehouse Restaurant, so he wants to pin that here. He'll find the PDF document that he saved to his computer and select it. The Add media window will pop up, displaying an auto-generated thumbnail image for his style guide. Next, he's going to scroll down. He can edit the title. So here, he's going to add Lakehouse Restaurant Brand Style Guide. Next, he can add a description, so he's going to put something like this. I created this brand style guide to build a consistent brand story for the restaurant I own and operate. Next, he'll click Save, and voila! You can see from the notification popup here that his brand style guide has now been added to the Featured section of his LinkedIn profile. Now, Tariq has one final media asset, an article that he published on LinkedIn, talking about how his restaurant helped a local nonprofit. So here's how he'll add it. Again, he'll click the blue plus. He'll scroll down to Articles and click the plus. The Add article window will pop up, showing all the articles he's currently published. Now, since he's only published one article on LinkedIn, that's exactly what you're seeing here. He'll click the star where it says Feature. And then he'll simply click Done. Ta-da! Now that article appears right within his Featured section. Now, what if Tariq wants to change the order in which his Featured content displays? Well, it's easy. First, he'll click the pencil to edit. Then he can simply hover over the horizontal lines in the upper-right corner of the media assets that he wants to move. And all he has to do is drag and drop. Now in Tariq's case, he wants his brand style guide to appear first, followed by the article, then the video. So he'll simply drag it in that order, make sure it all looks good, and then click Done. And as you can see from all the notifications that popped up there, his Featured section is now complete. Now, Tariq has the work he's most proud of pinned in his Featured section in the order he wants. Never underestimate the power that content can play in your story. Start exploring the Featured section and pin the parts of your story that make you proud.
