Moving up the neck on the 3rd string

- And the last string that we're gonna look at for now in two positions is the G string. So the third string, when we learned it in open position it only had two notes. You had G and A. Now we're gonna take those notes on the B string, B, C, and D, and we are going to add those. So let's look at all the notes, G, A, B, C, D. And let's look at them chromatically now. You have open G, first fret G sharp, second fret A, A sharp, B, and then you have C, C sharp, D, and D sharp. Okay, now that you've learned how to fret notes higher in position, let me just tell you this is gonna open up a whole new realm of your playing. So much of the guitar is easier if you're playing stuff in higher position and not using the open strings. Open strings sound fantastic, they're great on chords, they sound really jangly, but when you're moving between notes that are open and fretted notes, it requires you muting strings and all these other things.
