Build a culture of candor

- One thing I know for sure is that teams plagued with a culture of fear don't produce the best results. And what's the opposite of a culture of fear? A culture of candor. It's a team culture where members speak up to voice concerns. They ask questions, and they're even willing to push back to leadership when necessary, all to benefit the overall project. The question then becomes, well, how does a leader build a culture of candor? Well, it's definitely not easy and it certainly requires more than words or empty promises, but it can be done if you're intentional about it. The key in many ways is simply cultivating trust by building relationships. Have you heard the old sales saying, "Know me, like me, trust me?" It's hard to trust a person you don't like and even harder to like a person you don't know. So in many ways, the fundamental building blocks are encouraging connections that will grow into relationships…
