- Great managers love to lead, and the best way to lead is by example. If we really care about preventing burnout, we need to model self care. I'll remind you again, employees can't be what they can't see. Your team will see you taking meetings on your vacation and sending out emails after hours and feel this invisible pressure to follow suit. We need to change the legacy of burnout by walking the talk. First priority is to check in with yourself. Are you burning out? Remember, to identify burnout, we're looking for these three major signs. High levels of exhaustion and depletion. We feel disengaged and emotionally distanced from our work. And then the third major sign is a lack of control at work, that sense of hopelessness that the situation is just never going to change.
