- [Instructor] Pattern fill layers are an excellent way to fill areas of an Image with seamless tiled patterns. In this example, we're going to create our pattern from this photo of some peppers. We'll save it as a custom pattern and then we're going to fill the inside of this box with that pattern. On the layers panel, you'll notice that I've already converted all of my layers to smart objects, and that's because when we create a pattern and we use pattern preview, pattern preview prefers to work with smart objects. So I'll choose the view menu and then select pattern preview. We can see that it's actually telling me just that, it wants to work with smart objects. Then I'm going to use the command and minus key in order to zoom out and we can see there's this blue rectangle in the image telling me that this is the actual canvas that I'm working with but it's previewing what this would look like as a pattern.
