How to get better at asking for help
- So you've built up goodwill with your colleagues and friends and you know they care about you, and you love helping them. Who doesn't, when you can make a difference for someone you care about? But oftentimes, it can be lot harder the other way around. Asking for help can be a real challenge. It means admitting ignorance and weakness, or confronting past failures when we've tried, but weren't able to pull something off. None of these is particularly pleasant. But we know intellectually that we can succeed faster and get better results if we do ask for help. Here's how to get comfortable with it, so we can get over ourselves and make some real progress. First, I talk to a lot of business people, and I hear it all the time. I can sell my product or service no problem. I love telling people about it. But promoting myself, that's a lot harder.
