Ban creativity-killing phrases
- Have you ever presented a brilliant idea only to have it dismissed with just a few words? Phrases like "yes, but..." and "we've tried that before" cripple you and your team's ability to think outside of the box and it limits your problem solving capacity. At your next brainstorm, make it clear that creativity killing phrases aren't welcome, rather than "that'll never work," have people try saying, "well, that could work if..." Instead of "we don't have resources for that," say, "how could we achieve the same result "in a more feasible way?" Give brainstorms a boost by replacing immediate rejection with curiosity and suggestions. This lets brainstorming sessions better consider every idea and even keep parts of ideas alive.
