- [Narrator] A work breakdown structure, also known as a WBS, is the project management term for a hierarchy of tasks. You can set up WBS codes in Project to uniquely identify each task in your project. So the first thing to note, is that the task ID column isn't the WBS. Task IDs will change as you rearrange tasks. So what we're going to do is insert the WBS column in the table to the left of the task mode. So I'm going to right-click the task mode heading and then choose insert column. I'll start to type in WBS. And when I see it in the list, I can click it to add that column. Projects' default WBS codes are numbers at each level. So the plan move's summary task has the number one. Whereas, document requirements is one level down, so it's 1.1, and identify requirements is one more level down, so it's 1.1.1. And draft budget is 1.1.2.
