Bevel tools
- [Instructor] Another nice tool that you can use is called a bevel, and this will simply round off edges. So if you're working with edges and you need a little more detail, a little more rounding, you can use the bevel tool. So let's take a look at this propeller. If I select this left side here, you can see this is kind of crudely modeled, it's got really sharp edges. Now, a truly aerodynamic propeller would have more rounded edges, and we can affect this with the bevel tool. So I'm going to right click, let's go into Edge mode. I'm going to select this edge and then shift, double click to the edge next to it, and that should select this entire line of edges. Now, under Edit Mesh, we can do Bevel or we can hit control B. Now, if I select the options here, you can see we have a number of options, one is the Width, Segments, Depth and so on. Now if I hit Bevel here, you'll see I get another dialogue box with all of these, so I can change that fraction, so basically the width of that bevel, the number of segments, so how many segments do we want? The depth, now if we look at this from the side, you can see it's got a positive curvature, but we can give it a negative curvature if that suits our need, now I'm going to leave it on positive. And then we also have chamfer. Now if I turn that off, you'll see that, well, it basically doesn't round that edge, it just adds the additional detail without rounding, so typically we'll want to keep that chamfer on. So let's do this one more time for this. So I can just again, double click on this edge and hit Edit Mesh, Bevel, this gives me the options. I can add more segments, affect the depth or the chamfer, and round that edge to make it a little bit more aerodynamic. So bevel can work to round off your edges and just give your model a little bit more of an organic look.
