- [Instructor] Formatting a document is different from formatting text. When you format a document, you're adjusting settings for the size of your page, your margins, and the general layout of the document. Some people do this when they start a document, but you can change these settings at any time. Now to start, I like to go to the View ribbon just to confirm that we're set to the print layout view. Then, we'll go over to the Layout tab where most of these controls are found. And I want to start by going to the Size menu. And here, you can choose the size and dimensions of the pages in your document. If you're working in the United States like I am, you'll see the option for letter or US letter near the top of this list. But if you've installed Word in a different region, this list will be organized differently, giving you the most common formats for your region at the top of the list.
