- I grew up hearing my mother say common sense isn't so common. From Voltaire to Mark Twain, many great thinkers have made similar observations. So when a person says to use a common sense approach, there is an underlying assumption that there is some set of standard judgment that is accepted and agreed upon by most people. That simply isn't true, and this is why using common sense fails when leading through chaos. What you need instead is sensemaking. Sensemaking is comprised of seven principles. After this lesson, you will be able to recognize when these principles are working together holistically.
