- In your current role, you can bring tremendous value to your organization if you manage your horizontal relationships well. These are your peers, other managers at your level in the organization. In addition to improving your results, studies have shown that this helps to advance the careers of middle managers. Your peers have similar demands on their plates. Take initiative to build trusting relationships with them. There are a few things you can do to help you with this. Invest time in getting to know your peers. If you've always worked in different areas of the business, it's easy to work in the same office and rarely interact. Working in silos can create inefficiencies, redundancies and slow innovation. Make an effort to build a relationship with the other leaders of functional areas in your organization. In doing so, you'll appreciate and understand what they do and how their team contributes to the organization.…
