- [Instructor] Now, that we've understood what a firewall filter is, and what the structure of a firewall filter looks like, let's talk about how to configure these filters. Let's first start by talking about how to apply the filters or where can we apply the filters. Firewall filters can be applied to all interfaces to filter traffic that is entering or exiting them. What's interesting is that a firewall filter can also be applied to the loopback interface, which is lo0. And this will allow you to filter traffic destined for the system or the routing engine itself. lo0 or the loopback interface is the interface to the routing engine. When a filter is applied to the loopback interface, the filter evaluates the packets received or transmitted by the routing engine.
