What you should know
- [Instructor] To get the most out of this course, there are a few things you'll need to be familiar with. This is an intermediate level course. So I will expect that you already have some experience using Jenkins. You should know how to install plugins and configure global tools. You should also be comfortable with creating and running freestyle jobs. This includes configuring and running jobs that use parameters. If you find yourself still needing a refresher, I encourage you to take my course Learning Jenkins. It covers everything you need to know to get up and running with Jenkins and will position you nicely to get the most out of this course. You should also be comfortable working with the Git version control system and a Git service like GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket. We'll be using GitHub, so if you're already up to speed on that platform, you'll be all set. If you need resources for Git or GitHub there are courses here in the LinkedIn Learning Library that you can refer to. And lastly, it will help if you have experience working with the Linux operating system and Command-line interfaces. You don't need to be a complete system administrator but having some experience with Linux and Command-line interfaces will help with commands on the server where Jenkins is running. One more thing I wanted to mention, exercise files are available for you to use along with this course. The files are located in a GitHub repo that has code, commands, troubleshooting tips, and links to additional resources to help you as you follow along or practice on your own. I highly recommend you visit the exercise files repo and create your own fork to use with this course.
