- Change authority is an important part of change control and change management. Changes must be authorized by the appropriate role based on the defined change in process. In successful change control practice, the change authority is key to enabling successful change authorization. Not all changes need or should be sent to a Change Advisory Board, or a CAB. Most changes should not be put on hold for a CAB meeting because changes need to be authorized as part of normal operations. An individual or group can be the change authority to authorize the change. Change authority must be positioned at the appropriate level for the change risk and impact.
