Configuring VLANS

- [Tutor] VLANs are commonly used on a local area network as they have many benefits. In this segment, we'll review the steps taken to configure a VLAN on a switch. But first, let's talk about the five main types of VLANs A data VLAN handles user-created data. A voice VLAN carries Voice over IP traffic and is given a higher transmission priority. A default VLAN is created automatically upon boot, and includes all interfaces on the switch. A management VLAN is used to manage and interact with the switch, and a native VLAN moves untagged traffic across a trunk line. Now, to configure a VLAN, you'll first need to decide what type of VLAN you'll need, typically a voice or data VLAN. For example, we want to create vlan 30 and name the VLAN "students," and we've created some other ones as you see here.
