- [Instructor] The data plane is responsible for forwarding the actual user traffic based on the decisions from the control plane in a SD-WAN network. Data plane traffic originates with users and is distinct to users or servers and should pass through routers. This is also known as the forwarding plane. SD-WAN data plane consists of WAN edge routers. WAN edge is equivalent to the I/O module in a normal router. WAN edge locations are at the forefront of digital transformation. These locations vary widely, from branch offices to restaurants, sports stadiums, and more. They are united in requiring reliable security, connectivity, and application storage for IoT. In some implementations, data paths sessions are created when traffic flows through the WAN edge.
