- Trust is the gateway to impact. Trust is one of the most important drivers of your success as an HR practitioner. Without it, you're going to struggle to make an impact on your teams, and your business. So how do we build it? Let's examine seven foundational pillars of trust. First, transparency. When you think about those legacy HR stereotypes, the ones about HR being policy cops, or administrative personnel, they're often rooted in a lack of transparency. Be open about your decisions and the reasons behind them. When people understand your thought process, they're more likely to trust your judgment. The second is consistency. Trust is built over time through consistent behavior. Be reliable. Do what you say you will. The quickest way to erode trust with employees, is when your actions don't match your words.
