- It's challenging for one leader to remove every strip of corporate red tape, but you can simplify things within your area of the business or sphere of control. A powerful tactic for leaders in highly bureaucratic companies is the simplification mantra. In a matter of minutes, you can publicly commit to simplifying your work and the work your teams are responsible for. Now, on a piece of paper or device, capture the workplace habits or activities that waste time, frustrate you or prevent your teams from meeting their goals or delivery dates. Avoid calling out specific people or teams. Just focus on the behaviors that drive those bad habits. For instance, instead of, "Priya always defers decisions by requesting more info," make a note that says, "Too much data is needed to make a decision in our org."
