Use Gemini on the web
- On the Gemini website, you can type your question or request into the chat field and it will give you an answer using the Gemini language model and information found on the internet. Once you have a response, there are ways to modify or even verify the information that Gemini gives you. There's a button to edit your prompt. You can make a change then click update to get a different response. Above the response, the show drafts button will show three different possible responses to your question. It will also show a regenerate button, which will generate a completely new response. Below the response, there's a menu where you can ask Gemini to change the length or the tone. And with any AI assistant that uses information from the internet, it's possible that you can get inaccurate information, so there's a button to double check the information in the response. Text highlighted in green is information that Gemini is very confident about. It will highlight text in yellow if that information is questionable. And you can click on any highlighted area to see a citation where it found that information, and you can click the link in that citation to fact check that information for yourself. You can ask follow up questions, or you can click the new chat button and start over. As you ask questions, you should try to provide as much detail as you can. More detailed questions or requests will get you much more accurate and detailed responses. Since Gemini supports ongoing conversations, you can ask follow-up questions, and Gemini will remember the context of previous questions and continue with that context. Sometimes Gemini will even ask you questions, and you can answer in that chat field, giving Gemini more information or context to help with your request. Whenever you click the new chat button, it will clear the current conversation so you can start over again with no previous context. You can also ask questions about pictures. The photo button in the chat field will let you choose a picture, or you could just drag a picture into the chat field, then ask your question. And you can use the microphone button to ask a question with your voice instead of typing if you want. Now, as you're using Gemini, there are a few settings that you might want to adjust. Using the settings menu in the bottom left, you can enable or disable the dark mode, and you can also set whether you want real-time responses. And if you disable that, the next time you ask a question, Gemini will wait until it has a full answer compiled before displaying it. And extensions are a useful feature, and we'll cover those later in this workshop.
