Following the five feedback steps
- Providing feedback, whether it be planned or unplanned, formal or informal, can be a daunting or tricky process. It doesn't have to be this way. There are five simple and clear steps that you can take to deliver feedback in a productive, useful, and informative way. First, prepare. When preparing, think about key messages you'll share. Also think about how you will deliver the feedback. It could be face-to-face, on video, via email. And consider examples that you can share to highlight your points. You may at times be asked to provide some feedback off the cuff, and you might feel comfortable doing this. You could have lots of information ready that you can share. In which case, go ahead. If this isn't a comfortable request for you, however, you can always say that you'd like to gather your thoughts and provide relevant and useful feedback later.
