- I use references all the time to draw from. My desk is literally covered with toys. And in fact, I carry around a tray of action figures and toys when I go out on a location to work with because frankly they were breaking just in my backpack. I mean, I carry little horses with me, and I carry Hot Wheel cars with me, and tons of different action figures. And the good news is, as a story artist, I can write off the cost of all these toys because I use them in my work. It means you can too. Now I've got tons of toy action figures, horses, cows, planes, helicopters, anything. When I'm working on shows, like Stranger Things or Black Lightning, I also buy figures from those shows to help me draw from. Now, while you can find sample images of most things on the web, you can't always find just the right angle. So, I will pick up one of my figures and draw it.
