- There are a few places you'll want to establish controls to prevent exploitation of the whole system. This is not about command and control manager stuff. Rather, controls in this context refers to making things idiot-proof, no, scratch that, mistake-proof. Decision-making and governance are one area. This sets the tone for what work gets done and what doesn't, and how that all gets decided. The key here is to find a balance between patience and agility, patience, as you don't want to react every time something happens, and agility, the ability to move nimbly without too much bureaucracy and red tape. Be very deliberate and transparent. Before decisions are made, you need controls around idea generation. Who is it open to and who does the initial vetting?
