Revising and adjusting tone
- [Presenter] In this chapter, we're going to look at some ways Copilot can help you when you already have some content in your Word document, but maybe you don't like the way you worded a sentence or paragraph or you want to strike a different tone. For this example, I have a draft of an article about the origins of Globe Bank, and let's say that I'm not happy with this second to last sentence, "Still, at its core, Globe Bank International "remains a community bank, "focusing on the specific needs of individuals "and organizations in each community "in which its branches are located." And I want to come up with some alternate versions of what I've written. And so I'll select that text, and that gives us our Copilot icon. I'll click it, and because I have some text selected, as opposed to in the previous chapter, when we were generating content on blank lines, we have the choice here to rewrite with Copilot or visualize as a table. I'm going to choose the rewrite option here. And just after a couple seconds here, it gives us three options to choose from. We have, "However, globe Bank International "is essentially a community bank "that pays attention to the particular needs of individuals "and organizations in every community "where it has branches." I can click the arrow here to go to the next option, read through that one, and third option. Now, if I like any of these, I can simply click Replace, and that replaces the selected text with that alternative. I'm going to undo that, and I'll click the Copilot button once more and choose Rewrite again. Alright, now, sometimes you'll like one of the options, but not so much that you want to entirely replace your selected text. Maybe you like some elements of both what you've written and what Copilot has generated. In those cases, you can click Insert below. So now I have both versions of the sentence, and I could spend some time writing a version that combines them together. Let's undo that again, and I'll ask for another rewrite. Now, the Rewrite window also has this settings button, and from here you can specify what tone you want the rewrite to strike. You can see that the default option here is neutral, but maybe I want a more professional tone, so I can select that and click Regenerate, and that gives us three options with more professional tones. Or I can click Adjust tone again, and maybe I'll choose the Imaginative option, and Regenerate. And that gives us these options. So you have a decent amount of control over how Copilot rewrites your content. And again, if it generates something you like, you can choose to replace the existing text or insert it below and continue revising it.
