- Early in my professional career I practiced brutal honesty. I considered any measure of refrain or tact to be disingenuous because it never occurred to me that my opinion was simply an opinion, not fact. Looking back, I now understand that my fear of being vulnerable prevented me from authentically connecting with and understanding those with whom I worked. Leading with compassion requires that you are willing to be vulnerable. This can mean seeking help for your own challenges or asking others to help you understand theirs. The more willing you are to be vulnerable the better able you'll be to recognize opportunities for growth and compassion. After all, none of us get to grow without a few bumps and bruises along the way. In this lesson you'll learn how to use vulnerability to seek out opportunities for interpersonal compassion at work.
