Decoding TAFs
All right. So I found METARs really easy because I learned the order, and then it was like, okay, perfect. But these TAFs, not so much. They were really difficult for me. A TAF stands for Terminal Aerodrome Forecast, and as its name indicates, it doesn't give you the conditions now, it gives you the conditions in the future, it's a weather forecast. And they usually last, you know, they give you the forecast for the next 24 hours. A TAF the weather between the starting of the METAR which is usually like an hour from now and then 24 hours. The code is kind of similar to METARs, but they add some stuff. So some of these reports start with a station identifier. That is the name of the airport. In this case, notice that it says, "KORD". And that is because the proper name of the airport starts with a K. So ORD, which is Chicago O'Hare is not ORD is KORD just like BWI would be KBWI.
