- There's a concept that I've actually brought up several times. We've seen screens in AWS that showed this throughout other episodes of this course, and this concept that I'm talking about is the Amazon Machine Image, or AMI. This is a very important fundamental concept in AWS because all of the instances that you launch, at least most of them, unless you're importing a VM or virtual machine you already have, will start their lives as an AMI. So you need to understand the concept of an AMI, what it is, and how we work with them within AWS. An AMI is basically a blueprint with server configuration details. So you can think of it like the definition of what the server should be, as well as the operating system load that is contained within that blueprint.
