Understanding keyframe interpolations
- When we travel to get from point A to point B, rarely do we make that journey in a straight line. A lot can happen in animation as well from one keyframe to the next. Animation is nothing more than a change of a property over time. If keyframes describe what changes happening then keyframe and interpolation describes how that change happens over time. In this 02 linear comp, I've got one layer and it's got two keyframes that brings this circle from the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen in 20 frames. You'll notice that the keyframes themselves on the timeline have this diamond shape. And this is After Effects telling us visually that this is a linear keyframe interpolation. So let's see this motion happen in real time. Then you'll notice that the behavior of the animation is very robotic. It's what's considered linear, it just starts immediately and ends abruptly.
