Can I just say thank goodness Bloomberg is keeping Ashley Carman on the audio beat ? This is a timely look at the narrative audio biz which is, no surprise, in a funk. As she mentions here, you can't do a one—or two-year investigative series and pay your people on budgets of 150-200k. We tried. We lost money. We don't pitch those projects anymore, even though they were awesome and got millions of downloads. In one such project, our legal and insurance costs had climbed to over 1/3 of the budget before completion. The next wave will surely be some form of subscriber and ad-supported show, as well as creatives who can work on leaner budgets and maybe take a piece of the upside. We are very excited to launch one such project this fall - and my hope it may appear in a less crowded market but one that is still hungry for the immersive power of a grand narrative pod. #podcast #business https://lnkd.in/giDp8tPX
