⚡️MACHINIST INPUT NEEDED⚡️ Alright lads and lassies - I need your thoughts on this one. I have BIG aluminum blanket order to quote on (we’ve done the prototypes, so this is real) - but there are four things I’d like your help with here. Any insight you can give would be appreciated. 1. Who is the best aluminum extruder in North America? We have some 2” x 9” custom extrusions we’ll need in 1500 lb lots, recurring 4 times a year in two different profiles - so call it 2500-3000 lbs every other month. 2. If you had to buy ONE 3-axis mill, set up for fixtures that would stay set up in there to rip aluminum year round, what are you choosing? Something with min 50” in the X and min. 24” in the Y would be ideal. Something with a good max RPM and feedrate would obviously be the choice. 3. If you had to HOG material out of aluminum - what tooling are you going with? Let’s talk insertable or solid carbide, probably 3/4” diameter if solid carbide and below - or larger if insertable. 4. Fixturing and workholding - we want modular and something that GRIPS! Who do you have and what should we be looking at? I want to buy once - and try not to cry once ALL too much, but of course you get what you pay for. Let me know in the comments below - the feedback is invaluable! I have my thoughts in mind, but this is one where I’d really like to know your opinions.

✨ Fifteen rules of thumb for FPC design✨ 🌈 1 Avoid using isolated pads when designing FPC boards, and use wires or copper foil to connect pads to prevent pads from falling off due to lack of fixation. 🌈2 Use crimped PADs as much as possible for plug-in connectors in FPC design to prevent pads from falling off due to stress. 🌈3 The FPC board is too thin. To avoid copper leakage, it is not recommended to use holes in the plate. 🌈4 The distance between pads in FPC vias should not be less than 0.2mm to avoid copper leakage from vias, such as copper leakage due to bending and solder mask falling off. 🌈5 The distance between FPC through holes is recommended to be greater than 0.5mm. If a smaller distance is required, it is recommended to use U-shaped holes to avoid the edge of the board being broken when the FPC board is bent. 🌈6 It is not recommended to use large-area copper plating on FPC. If a large-area copper plating is followed by a solder mask, it is easy to bubble. If the impedance film is not covered, the copper foil is easy to wrinkle, so it is recommended to use a grid copper foil instead of large-area copper plating. 🌈7 Try to avoid routing too close to the pad, for example, the solder mask is easy to fall off when the distance is less than 0.2mm. 🌈8 When routing parallel lines, try to make the lines more uniform and denser to avoid some lines being independent, causing the corresponding pads to be overstressed and disconnected from the line. 🌈9 The selection of the grid copper foil at 45 degrees to the bending direction is more conducive to increasing the mechanical properties of the board and at the same time conducive to signal transmission. The grid copper foil line spacing is recommended to be set to 0.2mm. 🌈10 For the gold finger design of FPC, the pad needs to be retracted more than 0.2mm into the board boundary to avoid short circuit at the end of the gold finger due to laser cutting. 🌈11 For the solder mask of the FPC gold finger, try not to align the front and back sides. Slightly staggered can avoid cracking of the solder mask due to bending. 🌈12 The window of the FPC gold finger should be retracted at least 0.3mm than the size of the solder mask to avoid the gold finger falling off or disconnection from the connecting line. 🌈13 The spacing between FPC pads should be larger than that between ordinary PCB pads to avoid short circuits during welding.
