With Sponsored Messaging campaigns, we provide members the ability to personalize their experience on LinkedIn and enable advertisers to engage their professional audiences in the Messaging inbox.
In August 2024, LinkedIn enabled members in the European Union (EU) to provide their consent to the type of ads they would like to see in their LinkedIn inbox in the future:
- Sponsored Messaging ads (that is, opt in to see native ads in the Messaging inbox); or
- Banner ads above the inbox (that is, opt out of seeing native ads in the Messaging inbox).
Members can withdraw their consent to Sponsored Messaging ads displaying in their Messaging inbox through their Settings > Data Privacy > Messaging experience > Inbox layout with ads. See the Manage your account and privacy settings article for more information.
Members can also manage their ad preferences and control the advertising uses of their personal data in their LinkedIn ad settings.
Starting mid-October 2024, LinkedIn supports EU targeting for Sponsored Messaging conversation and message ad campaigns. Only EU members who agreed to see Sponsored Messaging ads in their LinkedIn inbox will experience this change. Advertisers need to comply with applicable law at all times. LinkedIn recommends customers seek advice from their own counsel regarding any legal concerns.
