Guiding kids to bright futures!
About us
Youth Guidance creates and implements school-based programs that enable children to overcome obstacles, focus on their education and, ultimately, to succeed in school and in life. We believe that success is realized as students stay on track to graduate elementary and high school, develop the skills and abilities needed to make positive choices in their lives, and develop resilience assets such as self-efficacy, anger management, and positive values so that they may live successful, self-sufficient lives as adults. Our specific and strategically developed delivery areas are: Counseling & Prevention (BAM, WOW, STRIVE) Community & After-School (Parent & Family Engagement, Full-Service Community Schools, Community Learning Centers and Extended Day & Enrichment Programs), and Career Readiness & Success. Youth Guidance directly serves more than 15,000 youth while touching the lives of many parents, teachers and community members. More than 95% of youth served are African American and Hispanic/Latino. Youth Guidance is accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA). To learn more, please visit our website at www.youth-guidance.org.

BAM students from Sawyer Elementary School had an unforgettable experience at the University of Chicago! Their visit included a campus tour, an exciting college basketball game, and a unique opportunity to connect with the players. Throughout the day, students linked the BAM values of self-determination and positive anger expression to the players’ resilience, focus, and teamwork displayed on the court. A special highlight of the trip was the one-on-one discussions with the basketball players. Students asked thoughtful questions and gained valuable insights about determination, pursuing dreams, and what it takes to succeed both on and off the court. This incredible field trip was made possible thanks to the dedication of counselors Christopher Luna, Kameron Brooks, and Andrew Morgan. Thank you for helping our students dream big and see what’s possible when they aim high! #BAMProgram #UniversityOfChicago #YouthEmpowerment #SelfDetermination #PositiveAngerExpression #FutureLeaders

Recently I had the unique fortune of sitting in one of our BAM/WOW circles at Carter HS where we invited the Dallas Police Department to join us. I was reminded of the power of Servant Leadership, Accountability and Integrity as we walked through some of our Becoming a Man and Working on Womanhood values. However I was equally moved by the openness and transparency that was shared by the officers as they shared their respective journeys to the profession. This is what Opportunity looks like when we connect youth to passion and possible career paths. Thankful to the Dallas Police Department, Sandra Sadduk, MBA, CSM and our Youth Guidance scholars who created a safe and brave space for all to share and connect.

Welcome to Youth Guidance, Kathleen Richardson 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 I’m thrilled to share that I have officially joined Youth Guidance as the Development Director in Seattle! For nearly a century, Youth Guidance has been a beacon of hope, enabling young people to overcome obstacles and thrive in school and life. Their transformative programs, like Becoming a Man (BAM), have a proven impact on youth nationwide, and I am honored to support this mission in Seattle and the Puget Sound Region. In this role, I’ll focus on building relationships with local foundations, corporations, and government entities to secure the resources needed to grow and sustain Youth Guidance’s presence. Working alongside a passionate Advisory Council, I’ll amplify visibility and bring vital support to our programming, helping even more young people chart paths to success. This opportunity feels like the perfect intersection of my nearly two decades of experience in fundraising, strategic partnership development, and my deep passion for equity in education. Thank you to Michael Bergstrom and the entire Youth Guidance team for your trust and belief in my vision. I’m inspired by the road ahead and excited to engage with our local community of funders, advocates, and partners who share our commitment to youth empowerment. To my LinkedIn network: If you’re as passionate about supporting young people as I am, let’s connect! Whether through partnerships, sponsorships, or innovative collaborations, there are so many ways we can create lasting impact together. Here’s to building brighter futures, one relationship at a time! 🌟 #DevelopmentDirector #YouthGuidance #EquityInEducation #YouthEmpowerment #NonProfitLeadership #BAM

This week, I spent time with an inspiring group of young women at Ella Flagg Elementary in the Austin neighborhood in Chicago. They are part of the Working on Womanhood (WOW) program that Youth Guidance offers. Youth Guidance is a national organization based in Chicago that creates and implements school-based programs that enable children to overcome obstacles, focus on their education and, ultimately, to succeed in school and in life. The WOW program, through its school-based, trauma-informed group counseling, has successfully reduced PTSD symptoms by 22% in these young women (through a University of Chicago Education Lab study) and equips them with skills to thrive. I'm proud to serve as a member of their Board of Directors, and grateful that Ulta Beauty supports this organization. Jessica Fiscella Chrissy Kubek Rich Coplan Martha Elder Khanna Youth Guidance
