Dr. Natalie Collar of WWE has had a new paper published! “Rainfall as a driver of post-wildfire flooding and debris flows: A review and synthesis,” coauthored by John Moody and Brian Ebel of the United States Geological Survey, discusses recent advances in rainfall characterization for post-wildfire flooding and debris flow hazard modeling. The paper covers topics such as the time-varying properties of rainfall (e.g., rainfall burstiness, intermittency, acceleration), characterizing spatially varying rainfall, and rainfall intensity-duration-frequency relations. It also proposes a rainfall regime regionalization schema that captures peak storm intensity and temporal scaling rainfall properties, which could serve as a framework for organizing, interpreting, and predicting post-wildfire hydrologic and erosional responses. The paper is available at no charge for a limited time at: https://lnkd.in/gfqDNYsi. #fire #wildfire #hydrology #rainfall #precipitation #flooding #erosion
