About us

Whole Foods was founded in 1980 on the belief that where food comes from, and how it’s grown, matters. It meant creating quality standards, working with suppliers who achieve them, and sharing that information with our customers. And it radically changed the way people understood and shopped for food. The result has been the highest quality natural and organic products, an unmatched experience in more than 500+ stores, with a passionate team of over 90,000 team members, 5 percent of our total net profits given back to our communities each year, and millions of customers who put their trust in us every day.

  • "I have always had an interest in food, the way it connects the world and people around us, so it makes sense that my career as an HR professional is also embedded in meaningful connections. Finding the opportunity to bring these two elements together at this point in my career has been life changing. When I was looking for my next opportunity, I told myself that I wanted to find a place that I could call home for a long time. During my recruiting process, I was amazed at how people-focused the entire experience was and the pride each person I met had working for Whole Foods Market. I admit, I'm new: I've been here just over three months, but I can attest firsthand how deeply our purpose of nourishing the people and the planet plays out in the daily lives of those who work here. Former colleagues would often say 'Emma likes to break things to make them better'. I love problem solving, thinking creatively when tasked with challenges, and I've always had a passion for developing people. My work allows me to create new, positive ways for us to work better — to optimize initiatives that impact my team as well as Team Members and partners throughout the company. As we continue to grow and look to the future of our business, we're thinking not just about the strategy around the work, but also how to best build sustainable frameworks for our Team Members so they can continue to do great work at their workplaces and within our communities. It's important work, and I'm excited to further my growth alongside it as a professional within Talent Management." - Emma Schmeidler, Senior Talent Management Consultant #Talent #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

  •  "When I first heard about the opportunity to intern at Whole Foods Market, I was both excited and curious. Coming from Universidad EARTH, where #sustainability and #innovation are at the core of our education, I was eager to learn how those principles could align with a company as renowned as Whole Foods. The journey that brought me here was rooted in my passion for sustainable agriculture and my desire to connect with a broader community dedicated to ethical and impactful practices. One of the most exciting projects I’ve been involved in was exploring ways to improve the supply chain and merchandising of unique tropical fruits. I also had the opportunity to engage in negotiations with suppliers, analyze assortment performance, and propose strategies to enhance customer engagement through innovative products. A favorite moment for me was visiting the distribution center and observing firsthand how fruits and vegetables are handled to maintain their quality before reaching the shelves. It was fascinating to see how even the smallest details, like ventilation and storage techniques, make such a big difference in ensuring the best quality. One of the biggest takeaways I have from this experience is the importance of cross-functional collaboration. From sourcing to merchandising to logistics, every team plays a crucial role in delivering fresh, high-quality produce to the customer. I’ve learned how critical it is to balance sustainability goals with operational efficiency, especially when working with sensitive products like tropical fruits. I’m particularly excited to take back the insights I’ve gained about sustainability-focused strategies, merchandising tactics, and customer engagement tools. These lessons will not only enhance my studies but also help me contribute to initiatives at EARTH University and beyond. This experience has been transformative, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a company like Whole Foods Market. It’s been inspiring to see how every part of the organization works together to bring fresh, responsibly sourced produce to customers, and I’m proud to have played a small role in that mission." - Braulio Pineda Sáenz, Produce Intern #Produce #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

  • "One day in late April, one of my professors sent an email announcing that Whole Foods Market was offering two internship spots for Universidad EARTH students. After some thought, I decided to apply. The following day, I received an email from Kim V. informing me that I was preselected for an interview with someone from their Sustainability Team. A few days later, I interviewed with one of their Climate Advisors, Nijia Z., and the day after that, I received the internship offer.   The entire process happened very quickly, and soon I was flying out from Costa Rica to Austin, where I spent the last 15 weeks with the #Sustainability Team, researching practices that Whole Foods can integrate within its supply chain to protect and enhance biodiversity. My work focused mainly on the beef and dairy supply chains, as well as the different methods to measure this complex and beautiful field of biodiversity to assess whether we’re achieving the desired impact. This work contributes to finding the best on-farm practices that Whole Foods can provide to farmers to help them build more resilient and adaptive production systems in the future.   I learned a lot from this experience, not only about the importance of taking action to protect biodiversity within our productive systems, but also the teamwork culture that I experienced within my very supportive and smart team. During all these weeks, my Team Members and the Team Member Services team have been accompanying me through the intense and fun learning process that is #TeamWFM. It has challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, figure things out as I go, and approach problems like solving a puzzle. And just like completing a puzzle, it has been incredibly rewarding to see everything come together.   I have felt truly immersed in my role on the Sustainability Team, where my ideas were heard and valued. Proactivity, responsibility, honest communication and support from others when needing help are key skills I will keep integrating both in my academic and personal life."   - Mariana Cordero Murillo, Sustainability Intern #NourishPeople #NourishConnection #NourishWellbeing

  • This fall, our Global Store Support Offices in Austin, TX, welcomed three students who traveled many many miles to lend their time and talents towards furthering their educations and bettering the work we do. Mariana Murillo and Braulio Pineda Saenz are students from Universidad EARTH – a private, non-profit university focused on agricultural sciences. During their third year, students participate in an industry internship where they gain hands-on experience related to their area of study. Mariana and Braulio chose to spend three months at Whole Foods Market, Mariana on the Sustainability team, and Braulio on Produce (whole fact: Mariana mentioned how the profits made from bananas sold in our stores through our Sourced for Good program fund students’ tuition — a full circle moment for her coming to intern at Whole Foods Market)! Joining them is Rebecca Cummins, our Quality Standards intern, hailing from Éire as an Origin Green Ambassador for Bord Bia - The Irish Food Board — Ireland's National Food Board. As part of the 22-month Origin Green Programme, she is one of 10 Ambassadors dedicated to bettering the resource management of Mother Earth, working with global businesses leading sustainability development while pursuing an MSc in Business Sustainability from UCD Michael Smurfit Business School. 💚 Mariana, Braulio and Rebecca: We'll be sad to see you three go, but we are so grateful and so excited to see where your journeys take you. #NourishPeople #NourishGrowth #TeamWFM
