  • In addition to the Mazunte Project (which she has done three times!) in Mexico, Dr. Dorothy Hoppe has done spay/neuter trips to Belize, Dominican Republic and Cambodia. She is especially committed to sterilization efforts in villages where sea turtles nest, to reduce the stray dog population and the harmful impact they can have on sea turtle eggs and hatchlings. Thank you, Dr. Hoppe, for the ongoing work you do to make a positive impact on the animal population and the environment.

  • Dr. Melanie Gerard, Medical Director at Brier Veterinary Hospital in Mountlake Terrace, WA, is dedicated to improving the lives of pets and people in her community. She serves on the boards of Seattle Veterinary Outreach, aiding unhoused pets, and the Washington State Animal Health Foundation, which funds care for pets of families in need. Dr. Gerard also provides relief work at Regional Animal Services of King County, volunteers at Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project, and mentors early career doctors in surgery. Thank you, Dr. Gerard, for the incredible work you do – for so many!

  • Dr. Savannah Porter’s extraordinary work in animal welfare bridges that gap between land and sea! 🌊 From caring for a sea lion at SeaWorld to helping an injured penguin in need, her dedication to marine life is remarkable. On land, she played a critical role in rescuing and transporting 100 shelter cats to evacuation sites ahead of hurricane Ida and performed high-volume spays and neuters during LSU Spay Day. Thank you, Dr. Porter, for your incredible commitment to animal welfare, both above and below the waves!

  • Continuing to recognize the amazing impact veterinarians have on the world, in honor of International Day of Veterinary Medicine, please read “Under the Tanzanian Sun” – Dr. Britt Dubil’s story about the fulfilling work she does with Mission Rabies. 🐾 "I’ve been a veterinarian in a small practice for almost 30 years. While I love caring the pets and people at Pinebrook Animal Hospital, I believe if we take care of our heart and follow our passions, we are a lot happier. I’ve been working with Mission Rabies for over 5 years, as a volunteer who travels worldwide to help stop the spread of rabies. Next month will be my 5th volunteer mission to Tanzania. It’s a great way to escape the dreary Utah winters and catch up with friends every year! This work is so important and fulfilling because I know I’m making an impact. And this two-week stint in the sunshine gets me through winter and diminishes burnout.. it’s one way I take care of my mental health. If you are interested in joining making the world rabies-free, I encourage you to visit the website (missionrabies.com) to learn more!" 🌍🩺

  • We had an amazing time at Fetch Long Beach! Our recruiting team had a great time connecting with doctors and support team members, and Dr. Adam Christman and Dr. Janis Shinkawa, DVM, CPA (HI) packed the house at WVP’s Lunch & Learn. They shared inspiring insights on lifelong learning, leadership, and mentorship, including WVP Launch, our program for early-career doctors. Want to learn more? Contact careers@westernvetpartners.com! Thank you dvm360® – until next time!

  • On International Day of Veterinary Medicine, we celebrate 🎉 the vital role vets play in animal health and conservation worldwide. Dr. Ed Cohen exemplifies this through his work on a South African expedition, where he treated wildlife like lions and rhinos while contributing to hands-on conservation efforts. Twice a year, the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association sends 10 vets to Africa, and Dr. Cohen had the privilege of joining in May. Guided by a South African wildlife vet, the hands-on expedition focuses on Africa’s wildlife, blending conservation efforts with practical wildlife management. 🌍 Dr. Cohen worked on diverse species, including buffalo, rhinos, lions, and various types of antelopes including Eland, Nyala, and Gemsbok. 🦏🦁 Highlights included treating a male lion with an injured paw and a Serval cat, as well as reversing anesthesia on a lion and buffalo in a transport trailer—an adrenaline-filled experience with just 10 seconds to exit before the animals awoke. He also had the opportunity to place AI collars (to monitor heart rate) on the front legs of rhinos, administer anti-parasite treatments, and collect blood samples. A bucket list trip of a lifetime and reminder of the global impact veterinarians make every day! 💚 #InternationalDayofVeterinaryMedicine
