"No mandates, rules, or decrees from Sacramento since 2019 have lowered gas prices. It’s misleading to claim credit for natural global market fluctuations - like taking credit for the sun rising." Advocating for policy that ensures everyone has access to safe, affordable, and reliable energy
About us
Founded in 1907, WSPA is the oldest petroleum trade association in the United States. Western States Petroleum Association (WSPA) is a non-profit trade association that represents companies that account for the bulk of petroleum exploration, production, refining, transportation and marketing in the five western states of Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. WSPA is dedicated to ensuring that Americans continue to have reliable access to petroleum and petroleum products through policies that are socially, economically and environmentally responsible. We believe the best way to achieve this goal is through a better understanding of the relevant issues by government leaders, the media and the general public. Toward that end, WSPA works to disseminate accurate information on industry issues and to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on petroleum matters. WSPA's headquarters are located in Sacramento, California. Additional WSPA locations include offices in Torrance; Bay Area; Santa Barbara; Bakersfield; Scottsdale, Arizona and Olympia, Washington.

The EPA’s decision to back California’s 2035 ban on new gas-powered vehicle sales waiver ignores the message voters sent loud and clear in November: affordability matters. California’s soaring energy costs and bans on gas-powered vehicles are by design. They are deliberate choices made by members of this administration who are disconnected from the struggles of everyday Californians. Read WSPA's full statement here: bit.ly/49IcpB8

California’s fuel market shows how policy choices impact everyday costs. 🚗⛽ A new U.S. Energy Information Administration analysis highlights: - California ranks 2nd nationwide in gasoline consumption. - Fuel prices have risen sharply, driven by supply challenges and added regulatory costs. - With refineries shutting down, ramping up in-state production isn’t an option. Importing CA’s unique gasoline adds even more hurdles. Our industry is ready to talk solutions: Balancing our climate goals with reliable, affordable fuel for everyone 🌍 #EnergyPolicy #Sustainability Read more: https://shorturl.at/14a2L

“I’ve worked with legislators for decades and have watched them come and go. The last election sent a powerful message: voters in California – and across the nation – are tired of being ignored.” In Cathy Reheis-Boyd's latest op-ed, she urges the new elected legislature to pay close attention to community voices and consider the issues that impact them the most when making decisions on new policies. Our industry will be at the ready to advocate for those who rely on California’s fuel supply every day, and we urge lawmakers to engage with us to have the critical conversations to take steps towards a cleaner energy future without leaving anyone behind. Meet our 2024 Summer interns, Justin and Jacob! This year, we launched a formal internship program to offer young professionals who are interested in working in the energy industry an opportunity to get hands on experience that can supplement their learnings in the classroom and offering them the opportunity to see how it can be applied in the real world. Jacob Simons, an incoming senior at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, is assisting the Bay Area efforts on behalf of WSPA. Jacob’s is pursuing a degree in Environmental Management and Protection with a minor in Sustainable Environments. He is helping gather and analyze information and research to support rulemaking strategy and communications outreach and content development. Day-to-day, he works to support Senior Director, Bay Area and California Regional Affairs, Bob Brown by attending air district meetings, and assisting with regional member and ally engagement. Justin Muller is a Junior at San Diego State and has been assisting Director, Information Technology, Will Ferrari with several technology-based projects. Justin is pursuing a degree in Information Technology (IT) which has significantly supplemented his area of expertise and skill level throughout the internship program. Throughout the duration of his internship thus far, Justin has supported several projects in the IT department, including working on internal associate event development, building email distribution lists, hardware and software inventory management and creating new employee and associate resources. It's no secret, everyday Californians are struggling to keep up with the cost of living. With factors such as inflation, taxes, rising electricity, gas and food prices, the pressure is on to pay for everything with the available resources. In a recent Probolsky poll, conducted by WSPA, focus group studies showed 84% of Californians across party lines, age groups, genders, ethnicities and education levels say politicians have overlooked people like them. Learn more about our findings: https://bit.ly/Probolsky

Everyday, Californians are being severely impacted by high costs of living such as food, gas and electricity. So much so, that some consumers are forced to choose which basic necessities they will pay for over others. Californians must be heard by their leaders. There is a better way. Join us in the conversation. Visit betterwayforall.org, and make your voice heard today.
