Our mission: Manage, sustain, and protect the health and productivity of Washington’s lands and waters to meet the needs
About us
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manages over 5 million acres of state-owned forest, range, commercial, agricultural and aquatic lands. We generate revenue that supports public schools, state institutions and county services. We also protect fish, wildlife habitat and clean water, and provide public access to outdoor recreation. Two of our most important responsibilities are preventing and suppressing wildfire, and overseeing forest practices. Washington DNR works with the public’s interest in mind, making decisions and taking actions guided by the principles of sound science and transparency. We support the vision of a sustainable future by protecting and managing the state’s natural resources so future generations will have them, too. We invite you to learn more about our culture, our careers, and why top professionals in forestry, environmental science, geology and other field have joined Washington DNR.
