Verdant Orchards is so pleased to share the recent news reported by Limpopo TV on our launching ceremony at the Tihovene Agricultural Training Center. This training center is part of the corporate social responsibility actions of our company, Verdant Citrus Massingir - VCM, which aims to support local farmers of Massingir and other stakeholders on new agricultural technologies, mechanisms for practicing drought-resilient agriculture and climate effects, composting, etc. In this first phase, 16 farmers have been selected from different communities in the Massingir district to benefit from this 6 month training program. The program provides resources and knowledge to the farmers in order to improve productivity in their own fields to benefit their family income as well as their nutritional intake. These farmers can then share what they have learned with other farmers in the area. This is all with the ultimate goal of enriching the lives of the people living in the Massingir community. We look forward to sharing more in the coming months! Bruce Hamilton Scott Friesen Tertius Strauss James de la Fargue Barry Hawke BSc (Agric), MBA, CFA Bongani Manzi

Verdant Orchards is excited to announce the successful conclusion of a capital raise in excess of $40 million from IFU and Fedgroup. This crucial investment will fuel the group’s strategic expansion in Mozambique, Zambia, and the acquisition of an established farm in South Africa. These funds will be used to increase production capacity, create employment, and promote sustainable agriculture. Time to celebrate and an immense thank you to IFU, Fedgroup and VDMA LAW and the VO team for making this happen! In Mozambique this week at Verdant Orchards' Citrus farm Verdant Citrus Massingir. WOW!!! the trees are growing and so too is the team. GLOBAL GAP Certification this week!! A big milestone for this young orchards business. WELL DONE TEAM!! The trees are in great health and the results of the various mulching trials are compelling. Stronger growth and 20% less water used on average vs the control. The use of cover crops between the rows of newly planted orchards is showing positive results. The Forage Sorgum grows tall giving the trees protection from winds, creating a micro climate and producing material for mulching. This really is working well!!

I've failed at 4 start-ups. So many learnings! I started writing a post about the 40 things I've learned, but it was harder -- and maybe better -- to boil it down to just 4 key lessons.

We've looked at hundreds of African start-up pitch decks, and some rise to the top based on things like: how thoughtfully the problem is articulated, how the TAM is defined (bigger is definitely not always better), and how the solution is differentiated. https://lnkd.in/gPP6c72D

We recently visited our Southern African orchard projects with our funding partners. We got to taste the fruit from our first citrus crop at Verdant Citrus Mozambique and see the positive effects of the great soil regeneration efforts on our Verdant Orchards Munyati avocado farm in Zambia. An awesome trip with great partners all very passionate about the future of sustainable and impactful agriculture in Africa. 🌱🌳🍊🍋🥑👩🏽🌾🛰️📡💻🛜☀️⚡️🔋💧💰📈🌍🌅 Verdant Orchards Verdant Frontiers Bruce Hamilton James de la Fargue Bongani Manzi Scott Friesen Emily Mihailoff #InvestInAfrica #orchards #sustainablefarming #sustainableagriculture #africarising #ConnectingOpportunitiesInAfrica

One of the biggest challenges for fintech (or any) start-ups is finding a problem that customers feel so deeply that they will line up to get a solution. Former Head of Product at Paypal Wallet, Janette Chung shares some valuable insights in a recent interview - she discusses the importance of identifying "old vs. new" problems, fighting confirmation bias, and incorporating diverse thinking. #fintech #startups #productmarketfit #diversethinking At the Verdant Frontiers Fintech Fund, we invest in African fintech start-ups and also roll up our sleeves to help accelerate product-market fit.
