Last week, Selena Gomez officially became one of the world's youngest self-made female billionaires and revealed she cannot carry children. Born in Grand Prairie, Texas, Selena was raised by a teenage single mom who inspired her to pursue acting. By age seven, she landed her first role on "Barney & Friends," and by her teens, Selena became a household name with Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place." Not long after, Selena transitioned to music. Her music took off, landing global tours across the world. In 2020, she launched Rare Beauty, a makeup line promoting self-acceptance and mental health support, with a portion of proceeds supporting these causes. Publicly, Selena's life was soaring. Privately, however, Selena struggled with severe lupus and mental health illness. In 2017, she underwent a kidney transplant, and faced public ridicule for her changing appearance. Selena's mental health plummeted. In 2022, Selena revealed that she spent several years contemplating suicide. Since then, Selena has recovered, growing her brand to become one of the leading cosmetics retailers for young men and women. Finally, last week, Selena's empire made history: she reached billionaire status. At the same time, last week, Selena also revealed something else about her life: she cannot have children. And Selena is not alone. Infertility rates have increased 5x in past decades. Hundreds of millions of people across the world are suffering silently. While Selena could have used this monumental milestone of becoming a billionaire to buy a yacht or a jet, she did something different. She did something to speak up for other women. She chose to share her own struggles and to stand up for millions of people who are suffering. Kudos to you Selena! The world needs more women like you. 🙌🏼 —— Want more stories like this?
