About us
The DC Metro Urban Health Program (UHP) is a public health-focused, service-learning initiative within the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University that provides students with an opportunity to translate their public health knowledge learned in the classroom into community-based practice within the larger DC community. Thank you, Ayesha Azam, for your incredibly informative lecture on financial toxicity and its impacts on public health. Learning that financial toxicity impacts over 50% of adults in the U.S. has Urban Health Fellows reflecting on the tremendous implications this challenge has on public health and how best to approach our work with this knowledge. We are honored to present you with the UHP pin for your willingness to join us as Guest Lecturer and for your dedication to the program as an UHP Advisory Council Member. UHP is fortunate to have you as a member of our community. A sincere thank you to fellow UHP Advisor Ornsiree Junchaya for joining in the discussion!

Gratitude is important. It can be a powerful tool for fostering positive emotions and strengthening relationships. At the same time, gratitude is complex, requiring intentional and authentic practice. At times, superficial approaches to gratitude can stir up comparison traps. Instead of asking you to reflect on what you are grateful for this season, we invite you to reflect on your personal growth over these past few months. If you feel comfortable sharing, we’d love to hear from you. #CallingAllChangeAgents #ServiceLearning #UrbanHealthProgram #UHP #UrbanHealthFellows #GWSPH #Gratitude

Thank you, Geri Kemper Seeley, for providing us with the opportunity to learn about and reflect upon the importance of cultural humility in public health practice. Understanding the interconnectedness of anti-racism and cultural humility in service-learning projects is key to working towards social change in collaboration with our community partners. Your skills of simultaneously facilitating an engaging discussion on all of these incredibly important themes while also entertaining a future Urban Health Fellow are unmatched. A sincere thank you to Dr. Timothy Holtz and UHP Advisors Bhakthi Sahgal and Elizabeth Mason, MPH for joining in the discussion!
