About us
United Way of San Diego County is improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of the San Diego community. Everyone deserves opportunities to have a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. Our Vision United Way envisions a vibrant community built on opportunity for everyone. Our Mission To spark breakthrough community action that elevates every child and family toward a brighter future. The foundation for a child’s success starts with family stability. That’s why United Way is primarily invested in the early years: to set kids on the right path toward academic achievement. Because without a solid start in school, most kids won’t succeed. And without family stability – a supportive home, enough income to live, access to health care – a child can’t thrive in school. United Way helps fill in the gaps. We all benefit when our neighbors are successful and thriving. Join the movement! Stay updated on positive change in San Diego and be the first to hear about our events and opportunities to engage through volunteering and advocacy by subscribing to our bi-monthly newsletter at uwsd.org.

📚 Last year, we distributed more than 4,200 books to children experiencing educational inequalities throughout San Diego County. Every book supports a child’s literacy, which is the key that unlocks their imagination and inspires them to turn their dreams into reality. With your donation, we’ll be able to continue our education work and provide early childhood literacy support in the coming year, paving the way towards a brighter future for our youth! ❄️✨ This month, we were honored to host members from UWSD's board and Affinity Groups, Women United and Emerging Leaders, for an evening of connection and holiday cheer with a special project packaging hygiene kits for individuals experiencing homelessness. Thank you to everyone who attended for helping us give back to San Diegans this holiday season. United together, we'll continue to make an impact in the community in the year ahead and beyond!

Did you know that seniors are the fastest-growing group of people experiencing homelessness in San Diego County? To help support individuals experiencing homelessness who are coping with hunger and food insecurity, UWSD teamed up with Exact Sciences to serve dinner at Third Avenue Charitable Organization (TACO). We'd like to thank Exact Sciences for your year-round commitment to volunteerism, and to TACO for giving us the opportunity to make a direct impact on the lives of San Diegans!

💸 Last week, the UWSD-led San Diego County Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Coalition, made up of 45 trusted local organizations, gathered at the UWSD office to exchange ideas and collaborate on new strategies to reach and support more San Diegans next year. The Coalition has provided individuals and families with free tax return preparation for more than 23 years, helping to maximize their refunds and return millions of dollars back to our community! We can't wait to help even more San Diegans in 2025! #EITC #VITA #FreeTaxPrep
