Although gene editing and gene tuning (epigenome editing) both predate the discovery of CRISPR-associated (Cas) proteins, their impact on the field of gene therapy has clearly been immense. With the rapid advancements in technology that followed, the power and scope of gene therapy has expanded exponentially, and clinical trials of gene editing, RNA editing, and epi-editing now abound - giving new hope to millions of patients worldwide. With Tune-401 - an epigenetic viral silencer targeting Chronic Hepatitis B - we at Tune Therapeutics are proud to be conducting the first clinical trial of an epi-editing agent for a common infectious disease. Many thanks to Karen O'Hanlon Cohrt at CRISPR Medicine News (and to the authors of this illuminating infographic!) for highlighting this and other breakthroughs in the field. #crispr #epigenetics #epigenomeediting
⚠️ Gene editing may be considered a misleading term as nowadays we are far beyond "just changing the DNA"! 🚀 With the current technological advances, we can alter gene expression by altering the Epigenome and even messing around with the RNA, all with CRISPR and without cutting the DNA! 💡 In today's infographic Antonio Carusillo, Ph.D. and Manel Llado Santaeularia, PhD. put side by side: DNA, Epigenome, and RNA, and which tools we can use to shape them and what for! 🍰 ...and cherry on top, examples of clinical trials currently using each of the three technologies are provided at the bottom! So you know that it is not just all bells and whistles! While we know you are already well-versed in DNA editing, you may be curious about Epigenome Editing. We got you covered! 🧬 You can find one of our explainers about Epigenome Editing here: https://lnkd.in/d3WbfPpu 🥁What about RNA editing? We can't spoil everything in one post, can we? So stay tuned for more content...yes probably about RNA-editing 😉 Enjoy our infographic, share, and comment! We'll see you in the next one! Want more WeDoCRISPR content?
