Redefining what's possible in organ transplantation

About us

Every Organ Wasted is a Life Not Saved. TransMedics, Inc. is a commercial-stage medical technology company transforming organ transplant therapy for patients worldwide. Our mission is to help save more patients’ lives by increasing access to viable donor organs for those who are awaiting an organ transplant. To accomplish this mission, we partner closely with transplant stakeholders worldwide and help expand their access to healthy donor organs, while delivering the highest quality technology, service, and clinical care. With more than 25 years of commitment to excellence and innovation, TransMedics is at the forefront of advancing the field of organ transplantation. Our innovative Organ Care System (OCS™) technology is the only FDA-approved technology for lung, heart and liver transplant indications in the U.S., enabling the optimization and assessment of donor organs outside the human body and replacing a decades-old outdated standard of care: static cold storage (ice). Combined with our National OCS Program (NOP), a nationwide team of clinical experts, 24/7 logistics support, and the first-of-its-kind dedicated air & ground transport logistics network, we are enabling transplant centers to expand their search criteria for viable organ donors and grow overall transplant volumes in the U.S. www.TransMedics.com

In Rome for the day to participate in the Press Conference near the Italian Parliament to support the national reimbursement initiative for the OCS technology in Italy. We are grateful to the Italian patient organization and the Italian heart, lung and liver transplant academic experts who are leading this important initiative. The future looks promising for OCS, not just in Italy but also across Europe in the upcoming years. The collaborative efforts of various stakeholders pave the way for advancements in medical technology and patient care. OCS NOP in EU will become a reality very soon! #OCS #Transmedics #transplants #EUOCSNOP

This week, over 175 transplant experts gathered for the transplant leadership forum focusing on lung, heart, and liver transplants. The event highlighted the Next-Gen OCS lung and heart clinical initiatives, along with an update on the first 4,500 OCS liver transplants in the US. The engagement and participation of clinical experts were greatly appreciated. Exciting advancements are on the horizon for 2025, as the Next-OCS is set to revolutionize the lung and heart transplant market. Stay tuned for the incredible developments ahead! TMDX was featured at Investors Business Daily. We are honored and humbled by our success to-date. We must remember that we are still early and we have a long runway of growth ahead to maximize the availability of healthy donor organs to help patients in need for organ transplants globally! TMDX team is working tirelessly to achieve this vision!

  • Here is another real world positive impact of TransMedics’ OCS Liver and NOP to increase utilization of DCD livers for transplantation. In 2023, the US liver transplant volume grew by 12% primarily because of this impact. Again, TMDX NOP can do more to continue to drive additional growth in liver, heart and lung transplants in the US! We are grateful for donor families, our transplant centers who entrusted to procure and manage OCS perfusion for them and our world-class TMDX Team who is making this transformation a clinical reality!

It's encouraging to see non-utilization rates decreasing for hearts (left) and livers (right) from DCD donors. As far as I can tell, this is primarily driven by innovation/technology/change in practice and not by any particular policy aimed at decreasing non-utilization. As someone who thinks a lot about policy, and how policy can be crafted to achieve certain ends (e.g., decreasing non-utilization), things like this always give me pause.

  • The OCS Heart and NOP were used for ~70% of the DCD heart transplanted in the US in 2023, resulting in the lion’s share of the 13% growth of the national heart transplant volume in 2023! We can do more! Grateful to donor families, our clinical users and our world-class NOP clinical and logistics teams!

Finally, there is now a little bit of information around normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) in the Donation and Transplant System Explorer. NRP is not explicitly captured as a data element, so we inferred NRP if the time from declaration of death to cross clamp is longer than 30 minutes for DCD donors. Below is the trend of DCD heart transplants stratified by whether the transplant was done with or without NRP. https://lnkd.in/gBq95htt

Congratulations to the Tufts Heart Transplant program and team for their success in growing their volumes with the help of TransMedics Heart NOP program. We are proud to be their partners and excited to continue supporting their growth in 2024. OCS NOP eliminates historical cold ischemia time and distance limitations, enabling more distant procurement of donor organs that historically were seldomly used for transplants. Thanks to the hard work of the TMDX NOP and Logistics team, we are shaping the future of organ transplantation in the US. #TransMedics #HeartNOP #Beatinghearttransplants #Heartinabox #OrganTransplantation #HealthcarePartnerships

TransMedics NOP program is expanding the reach and capabilities of transplant programs across the US to grow their transplant volumes to help patients in need. Here is our TMDX NOP Team supporting 3 organs for a major SE transplant program and another TMDX NOP Team supporting 4 organs at a major SW transplant program in the US! Shout out to our dedicated TMDX NOP teams across the US and our logistics teams who are making these cases a clinical reality every day. Keep up the GREAT work. TMDX NOP is redefining whats possible in organ transplants!
