Along with anonymous donors and the leadership of the City of Ashland, Trace Creek Construction is proud to have helped install the first baby box in northeastern Kentucky. The baby box officially opened on Friday afternoon at the Ashland Central Fire Department. The baby box, located on the 11th Street side of the fire station, is exactly as it sounds, a temperature-controlled vault with a blanketed bassinet, automatic locks and motion sensors that will send an automatic and silent dispatch to first responders, if triggered. To allow for secrecy, the baby will be retrieved by a trained fireman or first responder after a minimum of 50 seconds, allowing time for a parent in crisis a silent entrance and exit. The box contains several safety features, including automatic locks; once the outside door is open and closed, it cannot be reopened. At the opening ceremony, Sam Howard shared scripture from the book of Matthew, believing “what you do to the least of these, you have done unto me” as often being thought of as referring to the treatment of children. “That’s really not true; it’s what you do for everyone in your community,” Howard said. “This baby box is for babies… But it’s also for a grieving parent that doesn’t know what to do; it’s for a grieving parent that maybe can’t put a roof over their own head, let alone an infants.” When Kentuckians come together for projects like this, everyone wins. 👏💛

We promote and sponsor many organizations in all communities we live and work in. We purposely do it most of the time with no publicity. But this event is different. We are proud to have worked with the Ashland Fire Department, City of Ashland Kentucky and directly with Commissioner Amanda Holbrook Clark.
